Overview

The credit crisis has forced banks to critically examine how they manage risk and has exposed some significant weaknesses in risk management across the financial services industry.

With the collapse of several prominent banks, the bailout of numerous others and their subsequent efforts to raise capital, the effects of the crisis are far-reaching and the impact to risk management for the banking industry, never greater.

In response to the crisis, the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision from the Bank for International Settlements has created a new set of amendments to the existing Basel II Accord. These new regulations call for greater capital to be held in reserve, stronger credit management processes and improvements in liquidity risk management in order to strengthen and create a more prudently managed and resilient financial industry.

By zeroing in on the changes to the regulatory landscape, the Global Bank Risk Conference aims to bring together experts from the regulators and the banking industry to expound on the impacts of the recent crisis on risk management, Join this conference to discover the key challenges and solutions to prepare banking risk professionals to succeed and gain an edge in this highly competitive market whilst reshaping the world of banking as we know it.

Follow your own agenda with a choice of three streams over two days:

Stream 1: Credit Risk Modelling & Management

The 1st Stream is focusing on one of the key challenges faced by banks throughout the world – managing credit risk. This stream covers the quantitative and qualitative side of credit risk with a focus on enhancing your credit risk modelling techniques, mitigating and pricing counterparty credit risk and strategies to identify and handle credit losses early.

Stream 2: Economic & Regulatory Capital Allocation

The 2nd Stream focuses on another pressing issue made more urgent by the Basel Committee’s focus on ensuring that banks are better capitalised in order to prevent another financial crisis. Key aspects to mention are: the present regulatory thinking behind the new capital adequacy ratios, optimising your capital allocation and lastly on stress testing best practices.

Stream 3: Liquidity Risk Management

The last stream focuses on a topic which is usually ignored but has been mentioned as one of the causes of the financial crisis: poor liquidity risk management. In this stream we would be talking about how the thinking behind liquidity risk management in banks has to change, the increasing inter-linkage of credit, market and liquidity risk and contingency funding plan testing.
